I've been using netbeans 8.2 for several self-contained Drupal sites. For no apparent reason the debugger stops informing the IDE's editor pane of the current line and does not open the current file. I can tell that the debugger is working because I can follow the execution through the Call Stack pane, which correctly shows the current file and line. I have been able to reproduce the same problem with local and remote projects. The xdebug log on the web server is also updated.
I've been able to reproduce the problem with the nightly build of netbeans (netbeans-trunk-nightly-201804200002-php-windows-x64).
The problem first manifested itself yesterday in the middle of the day. After rebooting the machine this morning it worked OK, but after about a half hour it reappeared. A new reboot did not help.
I'd appreciate any suggestions at this point as to how to further investigate or actually solve this.
