PHP使用引号插入mysqli

I am trying to figure out why this is getting error:

$thisName = mysqli_real_escape_string($conn,"sonny's");

echo $sql = "INSERT INTO TEST_year (playername) 
            VALUES ('$thisName')";
mysqli_query($conn,$sql) or die(mysqli_error());

I get this error when trying to do this:

Warning: mysqli_error() expects exactly 1 parameter, 0 given in TEST_update_leaderboards.php on line 25

I have tried just writing "sonnys" and everything is fine... What am I missing here?

Your error says that mysqli_error needs the $conn parameter. But also you might want to change to prepared statements.
