Question

I get a parse error on line 17 of the code below, but the code is only 16 lines. I've tried renaming the source file and copying and pasting it into a new file with no change.

I'm new to PHP, so I may be missing something basic. Thanks for the help.

You are missing the ending curly braces for while statement }.

while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
    echo $row['position']. " - ". $row['meal'];
    echo "<br />"
} // <-- This curly braces was missing

To avoid such error its better to use a IDE with syntax highlighting feature.

If you suspect its unbalanced parenthesis this command comes in handy.

 tr -cd '{}[]()' < source.file | wc -c

If the output is odd number you got unbalanced paranthesis
